When I was offered the opportunity to interview Odeya Rush, an actress in the soon-to-be released Disney movie, The Odd Life of Timothy Green with my children, I jumped at the chance. I thought it would be a fabulous opportunity for us to do something we don’t every day, and I was right. Interviewing Odeya Rush was a once in a lifetime opportunity and it was absolutely enjoyable – for all of us!
About The Odd Life of Timothy Green:
“Academy Award nominated writer/director Peter Hedges brings enchantment to the screen with Disney’s “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim – and their small town of Stanleyville – learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.”
Of course, that’s an “official” synopsis; what I can say after attending an advance screening of the movie with the whole family is that it’s an absolutely enjoyable film that I guarantee the whole family will adore. We left the theater smiling, excited to discuss our favorite scenes, and that doesn’t happen very often at all.

Preparing for the Interview:
We arrived at the Disney Studios Lot about 30 minutes prior to our one on one interview with Odeya and had time to read some press material and shamelessly nibble on snacks. We came prepared with questions and lots of optimism, but Odeya surpassed our expectations. She was an angel. Seriously. We walked into the room and she was wearing this gauzy white dress and is even more beautiful in person than she appears on screen or in photos, and she’s just so nice. I don’t know if it helps that she comes from a large family or that she has TWO sets of twin brothers, but she was just plain lovely to my children. I’ll always appreciate that. We kept our questions very informal, and in the same vein, planned on reporting on her responses informally as well. So, Odeya is not quoted here, her responses are only paraphrased.
Interview Questions:
1. Is being an actress hard?
Odeya said that being an actress is not hard, except for being away from her family when she is on location. {See why she’s so endearing? Family is important to her!}
2. What was the hardest scene to act in?
Odeya said that there wasn’t a particular scene that was hard, but that she had to learn to ride a bike for the film. Now, when you see the film, you’ll see how extraordinary this is. Not only did she have to ride a bike solo, she had to ride “Timothy” on her bike! We thought for sure the pool scene would have been the hardest, but we were wrong! {smiling}
3. Why did you want to become an actress?
Odeya said that she’s always wanted to be an actress. She’s always been an actress, acting all the time from the time she was a child, even involving her brothers! 🙂
4. Do you go to a regular high school?
Yep! Odeya goes to a regular high school. When she’s on set of course she does her work on location, but when she’s not working, she attends school just like every other 15 year old!
5. How do you balance your acting in your large family?
Odeya said that she and her parents work really hard to balance her work and family, and I believe it!
6. Who did you get along with best on set?
I loved Odeya’s answer. She’s already learned how to be diplomatic, or perhaps she really just loved everyone. But, she said that she just adored the whole cast.
I actually wanted to ask more questions and I’m quite sure that I could have, but I was afraid that I’d miss my opportunity to take some pictures with her, so I forced myself to button it and got this shot {Odeya’s mom actually took it for us} and a fun autograph.
She’s seriously such a doll.
She’s going places. Mark my words. Her next role is Mary, Mother of Christ. It’s in Pre-Production right now with a budget of 30 million dollars!
We had a great time, and can’t wait for THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN to open in theaters everywhere on Wednesday, August 15th!
Disclosure: I wasn’t compensated {besides free tickets to the advance screening} in any way for this interview or post.
i am SO EXCITED to see this… parts of it were filmed in my hometown… we watched for a minute…
(CJ’s mom is SO SUPER SWEET!)
