Nutella Buttermilk Waffles – {first day of school breakfast}

I always try to make something special for breakfast on the first day of school and since my kids really love Nutella, I thought Nutella Waffles might be a hit for the first day of school 2012.  I found a recipe on My Cookbook Addiction that I modified a bit for the following result:  Nutella Buttermilk Waffles.   They are definitely decadent with a buttery/chocolately flavor, and a great treat for a special day!

Nutella Buttermilk waffles

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk – {recipe for buttermilk:  add 1 1/2 TBS vinegar to 1 1/2 cups milk and allow to sit for 5 minutes}
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cubes melted salted butter
  • 6 heaping tablespoons Nutella

Instructions:

  • Combine dry ingredients mixing bowl.
  • In separate bowl whisk eggs and buttermilk until well combined.
  • Add wet (egg) mixture to dry ingredients and mix until combined.
  • Whisk in melted butter and Nutella and mix just until combined.

I served with fresh fruit,  yet more Nutella and whipped cream.
