I always try to make something special for breakfast on the first day of school and since my kids really love Nutella, I thought Nutella Waffles might be a hit for the first day of school 2012. I found a recipe on My Cookbook Addiction that I modified a bit for the following result: Nutella Buttermilk Waffles. They are definitely decadent with a buttery/chocolately flavor, and a great treat for a special day!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk – {recipe for buttermilk: add 1 1/2 TBS vinegar to 1 1/2 cups milk and allow to sit for 5 minutes}
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 cubes melted salted butter
- 6 heaping tablespoons Nutella
Instructions:
- Combine dry ingredients mixing bowl.
- In separate bowl whisk eggs and buttermilk until well combined.
- Add wet (egg) mixture to dry ingredients and mix until combined.
- Whisk in melted butter and Nutella and mix just until combined.
I served with fresh fruit, yet more Nutella and whipped cream.

My kids will love these!
Oh my…. Nutella is one of my most favorite things ever! I will have to give these a shot!
My daughter and husband are allergic to nuts so Nutella is my mommy treat that I rarely indulge in. I may make these for myself after I drop the kids off at school this week LOL
You are such a good mom. I stay in bed while my kids get themselves up, fed and out the door 🙂
