Last year I went on a walk/run 3 days a week with a friend. We’d run about 1.5 – 2 miles (before I had to stop because I thought I would DIE) and then we’d walk another 2 miles or so. My friend moved, my motivation for exercise outside my home disappeared, and it has been almost a year since I’ve walked/run for a reason other than playing with or chasing my kids.
That is, until last week. I decided to get my butt in gear and get moving again for purely healthful reasons. Of course. Had nothing to do with the fact that I’ve gained a few pounds and I can see every ounce of them hanging on around my hips.
I put on those dusty running shoes, popped my ear buds in and got moving. I went a good full 2 blocks before I started feeling winded, too. I PUSHED myself to walk/run half of the course I used to take. Pathetic.
I came home convinced my body hated me.
And then I woke up the next morning and I was SURE of it. Oh my poor aching muscles.
I endured that pain for about 4 days solid. And then, as soon as the pain subsided, I saw on update on the Vicks VapoRub Facebook page informing me (well, not only me, but everyone) that a little Vicks® VapoRub® works wonders for sore muscles.
WHY didn’t I think of that?
Next time my body decides it hates me in the same manner, I’m definitely going to try out the Vicks® VapoRub®. And I’m not just saying that because I’m on the Vicks Vaporub Blogger Brigade.
Those stinkin aging bodies… (myself included)
nothing good ever comes from running. I’m telling you– unless there is a bear chasing you, there is no need to run.
Peppermint oil works wonders, too.
Hope those muscles get to feeling better soon.
Vicks? I never knew that. I can’t imagine how much that would smell. lol
Great job on the running! Don’t be so hard on yourself, you’ll get there! Also, I never knew that about the Vick’s thing, and I love Vick’s!
I feel so much better about managing only 3 minute at a time runs today. It’s only been a few weeks since I have been regularly running. Boo! And now I’m about to go outside to garden. Can’t wait to see what I feel like tomorrow am! Go find the C25K – works wonders!
