As a mother, I’ve loved being able to begin new traditions and carry on old one’s.
Holiday traditions are especially rewarding, but they also take more planning and thought than traditions that we have throughout the rest of the year. They simply involve more work and coordination. {which isn’t a bad thing} One of the traditions that we adopted 2 years ago as a family was to have a Christmas Eve Breakfast Extravaganza with my sister and her family. On the morning of Christmas Eve, my sister, her husband and her children come to my house and we have all sorts of breakfast goodies. We try to cover the gamut of tastes by having plenty to offer like:
- scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs and fried eggs
- bacon and sausage
- German pancakes and crepes
And then there are the drinks:
- Hot cider
- Egg Nog
- Herbal Tea
- Coffee Substitute (We don’t drink coffee so my sister and her husband are usually reduced to having a coffee substitute fortified with a yummy International Delight® Coffee Creamer.)
After we’ve eaten our fill of goodies, we exchange presents. This is the part the kids really love. They enjoy the breakfast, and they eat well because they know it’s the prelude to opening a gift AND they know that the rest of the day is super busy so chances are they won’t get another big meal until dinner time.
This year instead of letting moments pass that I SHOULD have captured on film, I’m going to pull out my trusty camera so that this tradition lives on on paper as well as in our memories!
