Alicewinks iBook {review}

The story of Alice in Wonderland has always been a favorite of mine, and to celebrate her 150th anniversary, I’m sharing her {again} with my kids in a new and exciting format on our iPad.  Alicewinks is an iBook about Alice with animated video and narration, in an interactive and one-of-a-kind format.  My kids get to experience Lewis Carroll’s unabridged text illustrated by 12 early 20th-century artists in a way that they’ve never seen before.

3 Things I Love:

The story is told in a mix of 19th century fantasy {actual story}, 20th century imagery {illustrations}, with 21st century technology, so it really is a neat mixture of old and new.  It brings the story to life in a way that was unexpected and lovely.  Plus, it kept my kids interest because they wanted to see what came next.

The story is interactive!  You can use the touch-screen to move around through the story or navigate between the book, illustrations and the movie for a fun experience unlike a traditional hard copy book.

Alicewinks has three main components that work together to make the story “magical”, like I mentioned above.   The original 1865 text, 185 original prints from vintage editions of Alice, and a full-length video featuring animation of the original prints and text with a cast of voices and full narration.  These three components make the story a bit like going to a museum.  There is history, art and audio visual!
