Wordful Wednesday-Temple Hill

by Angie on September 20, 2011

Growing up, I had access to one of the best “rolling hills” around.  By “rolling hills” I mean a place to roll ones body down.  For fun.   Technically, I don’t think we were ever supposed to roll down the hill, but in the more than 30 years that I’ve been trespassing and rolling, no one has ever said anything to me, much less kicked me off the hill. Well, except my grandma who always says, “you are not allowed to roll down that hill”. Here’s the thing: the hill is the hill upon which the Manti Temple sits. So it is a quiet and tranquil setting, full of beauty…and the best darn hill rolling place around. So, when we roll down the hill, we try to do it as quietly as possible. :) And, even though I know that the hill was not designed for this purpose, and even though I’m an adult and know better, I couldn’t NOT take my kids to a place where so many memories of mine were made.

I even roped my brother into breaking the unwritten hill rolling rule (there are not any signs specifically posted that say, “no hill rolling”) with us.

{My brother and my kids after getting some good rolling in}

{This is the Manti temple, which sits at the top of the hill. Isn’t it beautiful?}

{This is the view of the town of Manti from the top of the hill.}

{And these are my kids, rolling down the wonderful hill.}

{In case you are curious, I’ve posted about Manti before. It’s a place that I’ll always go back to.}

Wordful Wednesday is like Wordless Wednesday, only WITH words. It’s for those of us that can’t contain the chatter, but in a good way. More info. in my tabber box titled WW on the right. Thank you for playing along!

Don’t forget to hop on over to my co-host Amanda’s place (Parenting By Dummies) to see what she has to be Wordful about today!

I think that God loves to see happy people. And if that means they are rolling down the hill, so be it.

Do you live in Utah? I live in Herriman.

Those pictures are stunning, Angie! Do you know I’ve never been to Manti?!

6 Honey Mommy September 20, 2011 at 7:18 pm

Hey, at least you didn’t go ice-blocking down the hill like we used to do down Old Main Hill at Utah State! Now that would really have been frowned upon.

p.s. Did you know that like Lolli, I have never been to Manti?

8 GrammyMouseTails September 20, 2011 at 7:33 pm

I bet that hill would be fun covered in snow too! I think my back yard hill is more steeper tho… but Not as long…

9 kristin September 20, 2011 at 7:48 pm

Sacrilege! Blasphemer!

Of course that hill if for rolling. Why else would you walk CLEAR TO THE TOP?

Did you hear about the ‘cult’ of peeps walking around the temple grounds in their temple duds a while back? I think compared to that little no-no, rolling down in normal clothes isn’t such a big deal…

10 Runnermom-jen September 20, 2011 at 7:51 pm

That looks like so much fun!! I think I would have rolled down it myself! And yes, it is beautiful.

11 Rachel September 20, 2011 at 7:56 pm

When my husband and I were dating we did that once at a huge park. So much fun!! Looks like they had a blast too. Thanks for sharing and hosting.

I love a rolling hill! : ) LOVE! We loved doing that when I was little. I don’t know if I have ever showed Kaishon how to do that. Such a shame. I will have to put that on our to do list ASAP!

I remember, as a child, rolling down hills in cardboard boxes. I’d totally do it again if it the bruises would remind me that I’m way too old to be rolling down hills!

38 Sassy September 21, 2011 at 7:17 am

That’s where my sister and her husband were married. Such a gorgeous temple. They should have tried out that hill on their wedding day. Those would have been some memorable pics! haha :)

btw – I read your other Manti post too. It’s so neat to take our kids back to places that mean so much to us. We took the kids to the St. George, UT temple this past summer for our 15th wedding anniversary. Such a special experience.

I am always amazed at all the things I find we have in common through our blogs. Our Grandfathers were our saving grace….our twins were a reminder of our ability to endure….the fact that we’re teachers at heart and then some. This sounds cheesy…but seriously…we’re were meant to be friends. So glad that we are. HUGS!

That really is THE perfect hill, isn’t it? Looks like an absolutely beautiful spot and I’m sure you’re creating some great memories for your kids as well.

I have great memories of “hill rolling” as a kid and I know the time to enjoy it with my little one is just around the corner. And she’s a total daredevil, so the bigger the hill, the better for her. I’m sure of it!

That’s the thing about huge hills, it leaves nothing but space and opportunity for a good roll.
